What sizes of shipping container conversions are available?
We work with standard ISO shipping container sizes: 10ft (3.0m × 2.4m, ~6.5m²), 20ft (6.1m × 2.4m, ~13.5m²) and 40ft (12.2m × 2.4m, ~28m²). We also offer High Cube variants (2.9m external height, ~2.5m internal after fit-out) for additional headroom. For larger spaces, multiple containers can be linked side-by-side or end-to-end to create open-plan offices, retail units, homes and multi-room layouts. Custom widths and heights are available on bespoke projects.
Are container conversions well insulated and energy efficient?
Yes. All KC Modular Buildings container conversions are fully insulated to Part L 2021 standards. Walls use 150mm KINGSPAN QuadCore panels (U=0.16 W/m²K), roofs use 200mm PIR insulation (U=0.11 W/m²K) and floors use 150mm PIR Thermano Deck (U=0.13 W/m²K). Windows are triple-glazed aluminium (U=0.5–0.7 W/m²K) with 42 dB noise reduction. Heating and cooling is provided by a Fujitsu air-air heat pump (SCOP 4.5) with MVHR ventilation as standard. Residential units achieve an A/A++ energy rating.
Can container conversions be relocated after installation?
Yes. One of the key advantages of shipping container conversions is that they are fully relocatable. Unlike traditional construction, container buildings can be lifted by HIAB crane or forklift, transported on a standard flatbed lorry and reinstalled at a new location. This makes them ideal for temporary sites, growing businesses, event spaces and phased developments where flexibility is important. What foundation is required for a container conversion?
Container conversions require minimal foundation work compared to traditional buildings. The most common options are screw pile foundations (installed in hours, no concrete required, fully reversible) and concrete pad or strip foundations (for permanent installations). For temporary or short-term use, containers can be placed on compacted hardcore or railway sleepers with levelling pads. Average foundation costs are typically under £1,000 for a single unit. Do you deliver and install container conversions across the whole UK?

How long do shipping container conversions last?
Shipping container conversions have a structural lifespan of 50+ years when properly maintained. The Corten steel shell is designed to withstand extreme weather and heavy use.
